Due to RDS and RCN issues, it may be necessary to update extremely long names in Colleague, BUT be cautious of this change due to the fact that it could cause some issues with Ellucian Mobile and/or Self Service. This has not been tested. Follow the instructions below.

In the Colleague PERSON file, LAST.NAME allows for 57 characters. The 25 character limit on NAE is a screen limitation.

Editing the Colleague record should allow the longer entry and therefore produce a match. This can be done at the colon prompt or EDRC. I always prefer EDRC and it’s safer. 

Instructions:

Access EDRC.

  1. File Name: PERSON
  2. Record Lookup: seven digit person id
  3. Detail on line 1.
  4. Add spaces where they need to be.
  5. Save all the way out.

Only 25 characters will be visible in the last name field on NAE, but the rest are in the database. You'll notice that the entire name displays in the context card and in the Pref Name and Mail Name fields at the bottom.
Try your import again and see if the RDS data comes in.
